NPR’s Next Generation Radio: Am I A Ghost? A Black and Indigenous College Student Embodies Dual Identity

Sunnie Ishtimonabi is a Black and Chickasaw college student in Oakland, CA

She’s confident in her identity but often feels that she has to choose between being Black or Indigenous. 

What she does not struggle with, however, is how she feels about being an American.

Carolann is Maara’yam (Serrano) and Kumeyaay descendant. She graduated from Scripps College and has worked for WERS, KALW, NPR, Cap Radio, and freelance podcasting.
